The Board of Control for Cricket in India has released star India batsman, KL Rahul from the Indian squad to play him in the semi-finals of Ranji Trophy 2017/18 season.

Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) confirmed the news officially. This could mean that KL Rahul might not be involved in India’s team setup for the first 2 T20Is.

The Indian team management has opted for a young T20 squad against Sri Lanka and it is a little perplexing to see them let KL Rahul go when he is vying to make a place for himself in the limited overs Indian side.

Rahul hasn’t been able to cement his position in the Indian limited overs setup, having lost his spot due to a ordinary series when India toured Sri Lanka.

Karnataka had requested BCCI to release KL Rahul from the Indian squad so that he could spice it up in the quarter-final clash against Mumbai in the Ranji Trophy. He wasn’t released at that stage, but BCCI has responded to Karnataka’s request now, letting KL leave for the Ranji semi-finals against Vidarbha at the Eden Gardens from December 17.

KL Rahul will now in probability miss the 1st T20 against Sri Lanka, which takes place in Cuttack on the 20th of December.

After this Ranji and Sri Lankan assignment, Rahul will fly to South Africa with the Indian team for the gruesome South African tour that is scheduled to kick off from the fifth of January.
