Laxman on India’s No. 6 for Adelaide Test: “I will definitely play Rohit at no. 6”
Laxman on India’s No. 6 for Adelaide Test: Former India batsman has picked his No. 6 ahead of first Test of the series against Australia.
Former India batsman VVS Laxman has expressed his opinion regarding who should bat at No. 6 for India in the first Test of the four-match series against Australia at Adelaide.
With India announcing their 12-member squad on the eve of the match, it has all but cleared that the only position which remains unconfirmed is No. 6. Among the two candidates who are vying for the spot are Hanuma Vihari and Rohit Sharma.
While Vihari has only played a lone Test, Sharma has played 25. The people who are advocating for Vihari are bringing into play his debut Test against England at The Oval, where he scored a maiden half-century in difficult conditions. Having proved himself bu yet to play another Test since then, he deserves to be in the playing XI more than anyone else.
On the other hand, the supporters of Sharma believe that the 31-year old right-hand batsman has it in him to counter the bouncing ball on fast Australian wickets. While many of them are hopeful of Sharma bringing his limited-overs success to cricket’s ancestral format, it is something which hasn’t sort of happened since his Test debut in 2013.
Laxman on India’s No. 6 for Adelaide Test
On being asked about the same during the launch of his autobiography ‘281 and Beyond’ in New Delhi, Laxman was quoted, “I will definitely play Rohit at no. 6 instead of Hanuma Vihari. Even though the latter has made the runs and proved himself in the recent past, Rohit has the class and experience to succeed in Australian conditions. He is gifted with a game that is suited to the high pace and bounce of the Australian wickets.”
Earlier, former India captain Sunil Gavaskar opined with respect to the same. Having said that, his opinion differed from that of Laxman’s for he picked Vihari ahead of Sharma.

Who is better batsman Rohit or Vihari only one answer is Rohit Sharma so he should play we have great bowling lineup don’t need of any part time bowler . We have to face Starc Hazelwood and pat Cummins so we need our best batsmans at crease

Rohit is a great white ball player no doubt. But not a good test player yet. Hanuma did well in the short span in his test career.
