Boullier comments on Fernando Alonso’s mindset for the 2018 F1 season
McLaren haven’t had the ideal start to the F1 season, experiencing multiple stoppages during testing, bringing back memories of those pained seasons with the Honda engine, which was supposedly the reason for McLaren’s reliability issues in the last few seasons.
Oil leak, cooling issues and turbo problems have marred McLaren’s testing this season, however, despite being at the bottom of the mileage charts, a spirited Fernando Alonso got onto the track during the fag end of the last day of Test two to finish second(and recording the third fastest time of the winter testing).
Boullier though has claimed that Alonso is happy at McLaren and has a ‘different mindset’ going into the new season.
He rubbished all claims of Alonso being unhappy with the current status of McLaren.

“He is happy yes. Obviously he’s a competitor so he wants the best of the best and he wants more always,” Boullier said.
“Even if you asked Lewis Hamilton ‘are you happy?’ he will tell you: ‘No I need this, I need that, I want this’, they always want more.
“Alonso is in different mindset this year. You may have seen actually spending a lot of time here even when not driving the car, so he’s quite interested and supportive of what we’re doing.
“I’m sure he’s happy now.” he added.
Talking about how Alonso felt about the car, Boullier revealed that Alonso was pretty content with the balance of the car.
“He’s quite happy with the car and the car balance. There is some suspension work to be done, to work and understand the car, but he’s quite happy with the balance of the car.”
