Manchester United have finally completed the transfer of their long-term target Bruno Fernandes from Sporting Lisbon for a fee of an initial €55million (£46.5m), plus €10m in achievable add-ons. Another €15m will be payable based on Fernandes’ personal achievements, such as winning the Ballon d’Or.

The two clubs had been in negotiation for a long time before finally agreeing to terms that was seen as good enough for both sides. Fans are pleased with the signing of a genuine goal threat from the midfield and will hope that he immediately improves the side and their top 4 chances as well as their other domestic and European cup campaigns.

Bruno Fernandes Contract Details

If Bruno Fernandes meets all the clauses in his contract, his signing will cost Manchester United €80m. However, as it stands, the deal is worth €55m. The structure of the contract is such that Sporting will receive €5m each if the midfielder meets 5 other criteria.

These are

  • The number of games played
  • UEFA Champions League qualification
  • Premier League win
  • UEFA Champions League win
  • Ballon D’Or win

Sporting will also receive a 10% commission if United ever sell the Portuguese in the future.

The midfielder has signed a 4-and-a-half-year deal until the summer of 2024, with an option to extend by another year. His salary at the club will reportedly be £150,000-a-week. While this will make him one of the top earners in the league, his salary is still lower than several of his teammates such as Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford, Harry Maguire, Juan Mata and Luke Shaw.

David De Gea and Paul Pogba remain the highest earners at the club with a salary of £375,000-a-week and £290,000-a-week respectively.
