Chelsea bound Hakim Ziyech reduced to tears by his mother’s message during Ajax farewell

Chelsea bound Hakim Ziyech reduced to tears by his mother’s message during Ajax farewell. He revealed that he would have long quit the game without her.

Hakim Ziyech, Ajax’s player of the season for the third time running, has bid adieu to the club in the most anticlimactic of fashions. With the Eredivisie declared null and void last month, his time as an Ajax player has come to a close.

However, despite not getting the chance to bid farewell to the club amongst the players and supporters of the club, he was brought to the Tuschinski movie theatre where he watched highlights from his four years at Ajax alongside messages from team-mates past and present in a video titled ‘Wizard of AMS’.

The video featured former and current Ajax players such as Bertrand Traore and Daley Blind among many. Ziyech watched the entire video with a smile on his face. However, upon viewing a personalised clip of his mother, the 27-year old broke down.

She said:

“I’m really happy for you that you will go to London. Do your best, take good care, and behave like a gentleman. I love you and I am proud of you. Good luck in London.”

An emotional Ziyech reacted, saying:

“Of course, I know what I’m doing it for. It’s the words your mother often says to you. My mother.

“She’s a proud woman. I can see that she’s proud although she tries to hide it. Just knowing the hard life that she’s had, you know.

“She came here at a young age and raised nine kids. Eight or nine. Lost her husband too soon. And then you’re on your own. It’s all for her.

“I do it [play football] because I love it, but it’s all for her. If it wasn’t for her, I’d have quit football a long time ago.”

Like most combat sports enthusiasts, his passion for watching people fight began with WWE when he witnessed a young Brock Lesnar massacre Hulk Hogan back in 2002. This very passion soon branched out to boxing and mixed martial arts. Over the years he fell in love with the theatrics that preceded the bell and the poetic carnage that followed after. Each bruise a story to tell, each wound a song of struggle, his greatest desire is to be there to witness it all. His favorite wrestler is Shawn Michaels and he believes that GSP is the greatest to ever step foot inside the octagon. Apart from wrestling, he is also fond of poetry and music.
