With just four points in their last 15, Chelsea are clearly in a rut. Only managing a 1-1 draw in their last appearance of 2020, the London based side sits with just the lone win in its last five fixtures.

The results have not only seen Chelsea sink as low as 6th in the league standings but have massively increased the pressure on boss Frank Lampard. With the club wavering in form in reminiscent manner last season as well, many are starting to believe that Lampard might not be the right man for the job.

Put to the sword, for Lampard, his first task of 2021 couldn’t get any tougher. Up against Manchester City, this encounter could end up being a defining moment for Lampard’s stay at Chelsea going forward with another drubbing putting him on the cusp of being relieved of his duty.

In a drab situation, Lampard addressed the injury concerns of two players who have become quiessential figures for him this season. Both Reece James and Hakim Ziyech have been injury scares for Chelsea off late with Lampard providing fresh updates on their conditions today.

Will Reece James and Hakim Ziyech Play Against Man City?

Speaking about the injured Ziyech whose missed a lengthy period for the club already, Lampard said the player had already partaken in two training sessions ahead of the match. Whilst he refused to assert Ziyech’s participation in the upcoming contest, the Chelsea player is expected to feature in some capacity.

“He’s certainly progressing to the point where he’s very close to fitness.”

“He’s trained the last two or three days,” Lampard said when asked about Ziyech.

“There’s a possibility he could be fit for Manchester City if it goes ahead on Sunday.

It wasn’t so rosy when it came to Reece James though with Lampard ruling out the player’s involvement against City. The fullback is currently down with a hamstring injury, one which comes in the wake of the defender struggling with a knee problem.

“Reece James is out with a small hamstring problem,” Lampard confirmed.

“Reece James has got a small hamstring issue, not saying that’s why Azpi played, I probably would’ve played him anyway,” Lampard explained.
