Thiago Silva Contract : London Club Opens First Talks With Thiago Silva Over Extension. Silva’s telling impact at Chelsea sees the Premier League look to tie him down for a further year
Back in September when Chelsea had revealed that Brazilian defender Thiago Silva would be moving to the club, the move had few more than few eyes be raised at the move. Many naysayers had pointed fingers at the decision with Silva’s weekly wages paired with his age failing to justify his move to the Premier League giants.
Whilst Thiago Silva brought with him a gargantuan reputation plus a slew of laurels accrued over years of assiduous service at some of the biggest clubs, the Premier League was touted to be too big of a challenge for him. With age catching up with him, the Premier League’s searing speed, guile and competitiveness was said to be too much for the Brazilian CB.
However, Silva has not only silenced those naysayers but has emerged as a mainstay of Chelsea’s gameplan inside only his first couple of months at the club. He’s completely transformed Chelsea’s regressing backline, taking over the reigns of the side’s defensive gameplan to give it the look of a sound and compact unit.
Chelsea Eager To Tie Down Silva Till 2022
Keeping six cleansheets in his nine appearances at the club, Silva has not only endeared to the club’s ardent supporters but Frank Lampard as well who is eager to extend Silva’s deal at the club. According to Tuttomercato, the club has decided to exercise the option to extend his deal by a year, one which will see the CB stay at the club till 2022.
“I’m totally relaxed about the contract and whether Chelsea will want to renew it or not, I don’t know,” Silva had said earlier after signing for Chelsea on a one year deal as a free player.
“If I haven’t met expectations or contributed then we’ll sit down and talk about that. But I’m not worried at all.
“I will do my best possible and really contribute to this team, this new project. I’ve accepted this new challenge, it’s going to be really good for me.
“Everyone knows that my ambition is to play in the World Cup in two years’ time when I’ll be 38. That’s a great responsibility.”
