Chelsea were forced to spend a huge sum on Hudson-Odoi’s new contract to see off Bayern Munich’s interest.
Chelsea were forced to hand over a lucrative £180,000-a-week new contract to Callum Hudson-Odoi because of the developing interest from Bayern Munich. The youngster will commit his future by penning a new five-year contract with the Blues and the paper work will be concluded soon.
Since the reigning Europa League winners were in pressure to pay more personal terms than the Bavarians’, Hudson-Odoi becomes one of the highest earners in the club, according to Goal.
It is understood that the youngster will receive a basic wage of £100,000-a-week, potentially rising to £180,000-a-week which is dependent on his performances.
This will come as a huge blow for the German Champions, who were trailing around with the English International during the January transfer window. The academy graduate submitted a transfer request over lack of game time in January, but he has been guaranteed the first-team spot under the new manager Frank Lampard. The English outfit turned down three bids from the club during that span, forcing them to assess for alternate options.
N’Golo Kante remains the highest earner at the club with 290k per week, but Callum Hudson-Odoi sits in the second row alongside Kepa Arrizabalaga, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Cesar Azpilicueta and Marcos Alonso, who earn a figure closer to £180,000 per week.
Eden Hazard’s summer move to Real Madrid means that the youngster could get his desired number 10 at Stamford Bridge. However, there is some confusion as Lampard has denied a decision has been made over the situation of assigning Hazard’s old squad number.
Alongside Mason Mount and Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Callum Hudson-Odoi joins his compatriots by pledging their future to the club. This has come as a huge piece of news for Frank Lampard, who is looking to meet the club’s expectations for the upcoming season.
