Chelsea Transfer News: Blues midfielder on the brink of shock transfer back to old club

Tiemoue Bakayoko is edging closer to sealing a move to AS Monaco.

Chelsea midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko is on the verge of joining AS Monaco on a season-long loan with an obligation to buy following the end of this season.

The French International endured a tough spell upon signing for the Blues in 2017 and spent a year on-loan with AC Milan, where he shone last campaign. The reigning Europa League winners signed the midfielder for £40 million two years ago, but the Blues will recoup as much as £32 million in the subsequent summer.

According to RMC sport, Bakayoko has already reached an agreement with his former club AS Monaco, who are willing to bring him back to Stade Louis.

During Tiemoue Bakayoko’s first season under Antonio Conte, most of them came as a substitute, while Maurizio Sarri intimated that the midfielder will not be part of his plans anymore.

He was deemed too slow by the former AC Milan manager Gennaro Gattuso during the early stages of his loan move in AC Milan. But, Bakayoko grappled his way back into the starting eleven to cement himself in the team of the season.

In all competitions, the Frenchman managed to make 31 appearances, but the Italian side were not able to buy him on a permanent basis because of the financial constraints.

After returning back to England, Bakayoko has straightaway placed on the transfer list by the current manager Frank Lampard. The suitors were not able to match Chelsea’s demands, while Bakayoko’s former club came up with an idea of a loan with an obligation to buy.

Eden Hazard, David Luiz, and Tomas Kalas have left the club on a permanent basis, while Danny Drinkwater and Davide Zappacosta are bound to return to Stamford Bridge following their loan contract expiry with Burnley and Roma respectively.
