Chelsea vs Manchester City : Watch Zach Steffen Makes A Meal Of Himself As He Forgets Basic Back Pass Rule

Watch Zach Steffen Makes A Meal Of Himself As He Forgets Basic Back Pass Rule: The Manchester City man was spared an embarrassing mistake as Chelsea failed to capitalise on their freekick

With Ederson Mendy currently in self isolation, Zach Steffen finally got his moment on the big stage. The Manchester City shot stopper was asked to don the gloves against Chelsea, a high profile match which accorded him the chance to showcase his credentials.

Unfortunately for Steffen, his Premier League debut went horribly wrong inside only the opening exchanges. Rather than kicking out a back pass sent his way by Rodrigo Hernandez in the 5th minute, Steffen ended up collecting it in his hands.

Committing one of the most basic of mistakes fortuitously didn’t cost Steffen a blot on his debut outing for the club. Despite receiving a yellow card for the offence along with handing Chelsea a cleansheet from close range, the City man got away with the misconduct as Chelsea failed to make the most of the freekick.

The shot stopper had little to do in the aftermath of the mistake with Manchester City’s dominance and comprehensive brand of football ensuring Steffen was unperturbed. The goal-keeper was seldom called upon by his side with Chelsea failing to muster up anything noteworthy towards his way.

City were in complete control of the match as they ran rings around Chelsea. In a complete rout of the hosts in the first half, City raced into a three goal lead with Gundogan, Foden and Kevin de Bruyne all on target for the side.

Where the performance was a massive statement of intent for the club with the win taking them just four points behind Liverpool having played a match else, the defeat means the pressure is severely on Lampard on. Simple mistakes and a lack of understanding the game from the manager ended up selling the match to City like giving candy to a kid.

Chelsea are now with just one win in their last five matches with the club plummeting down the points tally freely.
