WATCH Anthony Taylor And VAR Commit Torrid Mistake To Deny Chelsea A Penalty: Timo Werner’s shout fell on uninterested ears with Chelsea being denied a blatant penalty
Although Manchester City rightfully raced into a 3-0 lead inside the first half of their matchup against Chelsea, the hosts did have reason to feel hard pressed by.
Werner going down in the box
Big call by referee Anthony Taylor and VAR as Rodri makes this challenge on Timo Werner. No penalty after a VAR check. Rodri doesn’t seem to make any contact on the ball, but no foul called. #CHEMCI pic.twitter.com/utucodZ5CT

The incident occurred in the 12th minute as Timo Werner charged towards City’s goal with an enticing run. His searing speed was too much for Manchester City to cope with as the striker found himself in a sublime position before seeing Rodrigo Hernandez snatch the ball off his feet.
However, replays showed that Hernandez had ended up impending Werner as he charged into him from behind. Attempting to win the ball, Rodrigo failed to time his tackle correctly to catch Werner’s left foot without making any contact with the ball.
Despite Werner rightfully going down under the foul, Anthony Taylor failed to heed the striker’s shouts of a penalty. With Taylor in a reasonable position to judge the set of events, VAR had no case of it being a clear and obvious error to see Chelsea be left bereft of a certain penalty.
Things only went on a downtick for the club from there on with City ensuring that he didn’t err in the slightest bit henceforth. The visitors ran the show as they walked all over Chelsea to score three past them with Chelsea falling apart and losing way at the back.
Familiar mistakes were on show for the home side at the back with Lampard failing to address the basic elements of the game. Apart from their horror show at the back, the club was mundane and mortifying in attack as well with the attacking players getting no sight of the ball.
The shoddy and shambolic performance further mounts pressure on Lampard who has been put to the sword by Chelsea supporters since. The manager has accrued a measly 4 points from his last 15 with today’s clash set to curtail in a certain defeat as well.
