In a chat on the show “Inside the Ropes “, the veteran revealed the initial plans for him at previous year’s Wrestlemania.
The nine-time Intercontinental champion being a huge fan of ‘The King Of Strong Style’ and pitched the idea of bringing Nakamura to the main roster and going on to work alongside the Japanese star at the grandest stage of them all.
But the extraordinary success of pairing of Jericho with fellow Canadian Kevin Owens caused a change in plans, as the former best friends fought for the United States Championship at Wrestlemania.

Here’s a transcript of Jericho comments from the interview.
“After we went to Japan in June or July I remember coming back and talking to Vince, and I said you’ve got to bring this Nakamura guy up to the main roster. I wanna work with him. Let’s debut him at WrestleMania.”
“I said I’ll stay until WrestleMania if I can work with Nakamura. Vince said okay. Then about a month later, I said that I actually think me and Kevin Owens could work at Wrestlemania.”
Jericho shortly departed for his Fozzy commitments and is currently not in contract with the WWE. Y2J recently faced Kenny Omega at Wrestle Kingdom 12 in match that was universally acclaimed.
Nakamura’s call up to the main roster was stalled, as the star went on to make his debut at the post Wrestlemania Smack down event. Nakamura is one of the favourites to win the Royal Rumble and is speculated to face AJ Styles at Wrestlemania 34 for the WWE Championship.
Now that Jericho has shown his true ability at this stage, the match and the feud would have been really interesting considering the charisma and talent of these men.
