2013 Champions Trophy Squad: What Are Those Indian Cricketers Doing Now?

Social media platforms have been flooded with photos and videos of India’s 2013 Champions Trophy squad lifting their second such title after an 11-year hiatus. For the uninitiated, it was on this day in 2013 when Mahendra Singh Dhoni‘s men had won ICC Champions Trophy to make him the first captain to win all the three major white-ball tournaments.

As is the case with any other global event, India had traveled to the host country (England, in this case) with a 15-member contingent. Only unbeaten team in the competition, India played all the five matches with the same Playing XI.

Batter Murali Vijay, pacers Irfan Pathan and R Vinay Kumar and spinner Amit Mishra were the four players part of that Indian squad who didn’t get to play a single match in a victorious campaign.

Interestingly, five players of that squad have announced retirement from international cricket. With the exception of Dhoni, the remaining four in Suresh Raina, Vijay, Pathan and Vinay Kumar no longer play any format of representative cricket. Similarly, five players of that squad currently represent India in one or more formats.

What followed for an 8-year-old was an instant adulation for both Ganguly and the sport. The optimist in him is waiting for the day when Punjab Kings will win their maiden Indian Premier League title. When not watching cricket, he is mostly found in a cinema hall watching a Punjabi movie.
