Ashes Lunch Break Time: Test Cricket Session Timings Today At Edgbaston

Test cricket session timings on the fourth day of the first Ashes 2023 Test match have been modified to accommodate a substantial loss of overs due to inclement weather conditions on Day 3. As a result, both the morning and afternoon sessions will be extended by 15 minutes at Edgbaston today.

For the uninitiated, only 32.4 overs were possible on Sunday. While the first rain break kept players away from action for a certain time, the second one had ruled out all chances of them returning for the remainder of the day.

Had usual Ashes Tests timings were being followed on Monday as well, players would’ve walked off the ground for a lunch break right after Australia spinner Nathan Lyon sent England batter Harry Brook (46) back to the pavilion on the fourth delivery of the 34th over. Having said that, players will continue playing for 15 more minutes before breaking for the first time in the day.

In the general run of things, a total of 90 overs are to be bowled in a single day of a Test match. Speaking of this particular day, match officials will make it a point to continue for 98.3 overs. That being said, it will only be possible if both sides practice an ideal over rate. Slow over rate, which is the norm nowadays, will hamper the chances of bowlers bowling these many overs even with the additional time.

Test Cricket Session Timings Today At Edgbaston

First Session – 11:00 AM to 01:15 PM

Lunch – 01:15 PM to 01:55 PM

Second Session – 01:55 PM to 04:10 PM

Tea – 04:10 PM to 04:30 PM

Third Session – 04:30 PM to 06:30 PM

Extra Time – 06:30 PM to 07:00 PM

As is the case in all Test matches, play can continue for an additional 30 minutes to allow the fielding team to complete the number of overs slotted for the day. However, proper execution of the same will largely depend on the quality of natural light on display in the evening session.
