BBL 2020-21: Jackson Bird grabs juggling catch with legs to dismiss Jimmy Peirson in Sixers vs Heat clash

Jackson Bird grabs juggling catch: The fast bowler from Sydney Sixers somehow managed to hung on to an important catch.

During the 35th match of the ongoing 10th season of the Big Bash League between Sydney Sixers and Brisbane Heat at the Carrara Oval, Sydney Sixers fast bowler Jackson Bird grabbed an unusual catch with the help of his legs to dismiss Brisbane Heat wicket-keeper batsman Jimmy Peirson.

It all happened on the second delivery of the 15th over when Peirson smashed a Jake Ball delivery whilst batting in the power surge but found Bird at extra cover.

Timing his jump well against a hard hit, Bird couldn’t grab the ball in the first go. However, an unusual set of circumstances saw him using both his legs to ensure that the ball doesn’t hit the ground as he himself was falling down.

After multiple replays from various angles, it was quite evident that Bird’s legs put on display one of the more strangest catches in the sport. Peirson, who came in to bat at No. 5 in the eighth over, departed after scoring 16 (18) with the help of a lone boundary.

In addition to completing a catch, Bird bowled with discipline to register bowling figures of 4-0-22-2. Ball, who has now conceded runs at an economy rate of 11 in the 10 overs he has bowled across three matches this season, also dismissed Lewis Gregory (26) in addition to Peirson.

After Sixers captain Daniel Hughes won the toss and invited Heat in to bat, all-rounder Carlos Brathwaite picked 4/18 in his four overs to restrict the opposition to 148/10 in 20 overs. Having scored 56 (44) comprising of seven fours and a six, Heat captain Chris Lynn was their top-scorer.
