BBL finals 2021: Will Mitchell Starc represent Sydney Sixers in Big Bash League 10 final?

Will Mitchell Starc represent Sydney Sixers: The Australian spearhead had signed with Sydney Sixers ahead of BBL 2020-21.

Despite playing without their regular captain Moises Henriques for a large part of the ongoing 10th season of the Big Bash League, defending champions Sydney Sixers have so far defended their title in the best possible manner by finishing as the table-toppers in the league stage.

Having won nine and lost five out of their 14 league matches this season, Sixers secured a berth in the Qualifier match with 36 points under their belt.

Facing Perth Scorchers at the Manuka Oval on Saturday, Sixers comfortably sealed a 168-run target to book a spot in the final match which will be played on February 6 at the Sydney Cricket Ground.

Sixers, who had signed fast bowler Mitchell Starc before the season, had the option of bolstering their fast-bowling attack by including the 31-year old player ahead of the final match but have decided to not tinker much with their current line-up.

Starc, who is fit and available for the final match after playing four Tests against India at home, has mutually agreed upon not playing the final keeping “everyone’s best interests” in mind.

“The guys have done so well this year and I think it’s in everyone’s best interests to stick with the guys that have worked so hard to get to this point. I’ve always felt part of the club and I am right behind them for another big win on Saturday night,” Starc said in a statement.

It is worth mentioning that both Starc and Australia spinner Nathan Lyon will be available at Sixers in an off-the-field capacity for the BBL 10 final match which will be played against one out of Scorchers or Brisbane Heat.

Starc, whose last BBL outing dates back to 2014, has picked 20 wickets in his 10-match BBL career at an average and economy rate of 14.85 and 7.92.
