Ben Stokes injury news: Rajasthan Royals all-rounder ruled out of IPL 2021 with suspected broken hand

Ben Stokes injury: The premier all-rounder is all but ruled out of the ongoing 14th season of the Indian Premier League.

During the fourth match of the ongoing 14th season of the Indian Premier League between Rajasthan Royals and Punjab Kings in Mumbai yesterday, Rajasthan Royals all-rounder Ben Stokes had injured his hand while successfully grabbing a catch.

It all had happened on the penultimate delivery of the 10th over when veteran Punjab Kings batsman Chris Gayle had played a Riyan Parag delivery towards Stokes at long-on.

Running in to complete the catch, Stokes’ praiseworthy athleticism had put a halt to Gayle’s knock as the Englishman made amends on the field after previously dropping a straightforward catch.

In the three deliveries that Stokes batted for in the second innings, he failed to get off the mark.

Stokes, who had initially felt discomfort on his hand, is said to have broken his hand as the injury has all but ruled him out of IPL 2021. The development has emerged according to a report in The Independent.

The report further states that Stokes will remain in India for a week. After undergoing X-rays to his hand on Thurday, Stokes will begin rehabilitation before traveling to England.

The news has come as a massive blow for both Rajasthan and England. Having lost their season opener last night at the Wankhede Stadium, Royals are currently without the services of England fast bowler Jofra Archer.

As an immediate replacement, Rajasthan have the option of opening the batting with Jos Buttler and including David Miller in the middle-order. Additionally, they also have the option of playing Liam Livingstone, who can also bowl an over or two (if needed).
