Former England batsman Kevin Pietersen is celebrating his 40th birthday today. Given his fan-following across the globe, Pietersen is receiving bountiful wishes from the cricketing fraternity and fans across social media platforms.
Pietersen, who made his national debut for England during their tour of Zimbabwe in 2004, last played for them during the 2013-14 Ashes.
Having scored 13,779 runs in 275 matches at an average of 44.30 including 32 centuries and 67 half-centuries, Pietersen is England’s third-highest run-scorer across formats. Pietersen’s 32 centuries are also the third-highest for an English batsman after Sir Alistair Cook (38) and Joe Root (33).
Pietersen, who scored 804 runs in 23 ODIs at an average of 73.09 and a strike rate of 98.28 including three centuries and four half-centuries in his first year to announce himself with authority, bagged the ICC ODI Player of the Year and the ICC Emerging Player of the Year award in 2005.
Despite retiring from international cricket, Pietersen continued to play franchise till 2018 with a stint for Quetta Gladiators in the Pakistan Super League being his last competitive appearance. In 200 T20s, Pietersen had scored 5,695 runs at an average of 33.89 and a strike rate of 136.89 including three centuries and 35 half-centuries.
