Chennai Super Kings is certainly one of the most popular teams in the history of the IPL. They last won the title in IPL 2021 surprising everyone, but the last season was underwhelming for them. The Super Kings will aim to make a strong squad for the upcoming IPL season.

The captaincy was a huge debate for them last season, as they announced Ravindra Jadeja as the captain of the side ahead of the tournament, but due to his poor performances, MS Dhoni again replaced him midway through the tournament. Dhoni will be leading the side in IPL 2023 as well.
Ahead of the IPL 2023 auction, the franchise freed their purse to sign some new players in the auction. The release of DJ Bravo was the most surprising one and even Robin Uthappa has announced his retirement.

Chennai Super Kings had 20.45 crores in their purse ahead of the auction, and they had some purchases to make. The biggest challenge for them was to replace their ace all-rounder DJ Bravo, who announced his retirement from IPL ahead of the next IPL season as he will join the coaching role for Chennai Super Kings.
They did the job and signed one of the biggest match-winners in Ben Stokes, and they paid INR 16.25 crores for him, making him the most expensive player signed by CSK in the history of the IPL auction. It will be interesting to see where Stokes will play as Chennai loves playing on slower tracks.

Apart from Stokes, Chennai signed Ajinkya Rahane for a price of INR 50 Lacs. They also tried their best to sign Sam Curran again, but they failed as Punjab bought Curran for a record price of INR 18.50 crores. Chennai Super Kings also tried really hard for Jason Holder, but Rajasthan Royals snapped him away from them.
Chennai Super Kings certainly need an express pacer in their ranks, and they would be looking to add some players in the auction. The death bowling of the side was a concern last year, and they need to find that solution. New Zealand’s Kyle Jamieson has been signed to solve the same issue.
