CSK vs DC Man of the Match today: Who was awarded the Man of the Match in IPL 2021 Match 2?

CSK vs DC Man of the Match: The opening batsman from Delhi Capitals won the Man of the Match award for scoring a half-century tonight.

During the second match of the ongoing 14th season of the Indian Premier League between Chennai Super Kings and Delhi Capitals in Mumbai, Delhi Capitals beat Chennai Super Kings by 7 wicket to register a thumping victory.

Capitals cruised in a 189-run chase on the back of a match-winning 138-run partnership between opening batsmen Prithvi Shaw (72) and Shikhar Dhawan (85). Eventually, it was captain Rishabh Pant (15*) who hit a boundary off Shardul Thakur to seal the chase in the penultimate over.

Earlier, it was Pant who had invited CSK in to bat. With all-rounder Sam Curran scoring a game-changing 34 (15), Super Kings had put on board 188/7 in 20 overs. Having scored 54 (36) with the help of three fours and four sixes, CSK vice-captain Suresh Raina was their top-scorer because of his 40th IPL half-century.

With bowling figures of 3-0-18-2, DC all-rounder Chris Woakes was the pick of their bowlers. Avesh Khan, who had opened the bowling with Woakes, also bowled exceedingly well to pick bowling figures of 4-0-23-2.

Shaw and Dhawan, who had scored 24 runs in the first three overs against the new ball, accumulated 41 runs in the last three overs of the powerplay to lay a solid foundation in a massive chase.

Given how both of them found boundaries without much trouble, the left-right combination worked wonders for Capitals. Dhawan, who outscored Shaw with his 85 (54) comprising of 10 fours and two sixes, was awarded the ‘Man of the Match’. While Shaw’s strike rate of 189.47 was way better than Dhawan’s 157.40, the latter had also grabbed as many as three catches in the first innings.

“I really enjoyed my batting. Was enjoying the way I was hitting the ball. Prithvi [Shaw] was batting well as well. He carried on with his form from Vijay Hazare [Trophy 2021]. It was important to get off to a good start because we were chasing a big total,” Dhawan told Star Sports during the post-match presentation ceremony.
