Akin the first Test, Australia have grabbed the South Africans by the scruff of their necks during the ongoing second Test match at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), courtesy of a stellar double century smashed by David Warner (200*) during the first innings.

Warner became only the tenth international men’s cricketer to score a ton, and also only the second-ever to smash a double ton in his 100th Test match.
Moreover, the 36-year-old has now not only become the eighth Australian men’s player to have surpassed the 8000 Test runs mark, but also became only the second cricketer to score a century on his 100th appearance in both the ODI and the Test format, after the legendary Gordon Greenidge.
Also, most importantly, he must have taken a sigh of relief as he managed to replenish the 27-innings drought of a three-figure score in the format, with the last one before today having arrived in January 2020.
Thus, courtesy of his 239-run stand for the third wicket alongside Steve Smith, he took his team total to 386/3 at Stumps on ‘Day 2’, with the first innings lead swelling up to 197 runs.
David Warner salary
As per the central contract awarded by Cricket Australia for the 2022-23 season, David Warner is the third-highest earning cricketer in the Australia men’s team, with an annual salary of AUD 1.5 million.
Apart from this aforementioned retainer fee, Warner (and other players of the Australian team) is also handed a 40% match fee bonus for every overseas Test match victory.
Australian ODI and Test format skipper Pat Cummins is at the top of the list of highest paid Australian cricketers. Cummins reportedly earns an annual salary of AUD 2 million, exclusive of the $200k handed as captain’s bonus.
How much does Warner earn as match fee for Australia?
As per the latest annual contract, David Warner earns to the tune of $18,000, $7,000, and $5,500 as match fee for each Test, ODI, and T20I game respectively for the Australian team.
