"Hope so": 'Strong' Pat Cummins hopeful of playing Australia vs West Indies Adelaide Test

Australian skipper Pat Cummins has led his side to a fine 164-run victory at the Perth Stadium, despite a defiant effort from the Windies lower-middle batters on the final day of the Test.

Courtesy of a stellar century off the bat of their skipper Kraigg Brathwaite (110) on ‘Day 4’, West Indies forced the match to go into ‘Day 5’, with the line-up requiring another 306 runs to win the contest and 7 wickets in the bank.

However, with Brathwaite managing to just add nine runs to his overnight score of 101, and with his partner at the other end – Kyle Mayers (10) getting dismissed quite early in the morning session, it was all about delaying the inevitable for as long as possible for the rest of the batters.

Allrounders Roston Chase (55) and Alzarri Joseph (43) did try their best with a half-century partnership, but Nathan Lyon, with a six-wicket haul wrapped things up by the 111th Over, with the Windies order getting dismissed at the score of 333.

Marnus Labuschagne, for his double century (1st innings) and century (second innings), was adjudged the ‘Player of the Match’.

Australian skipper Pat Cummins did not take the field for most parts during the West Indies’ second innings yesterday, after suffering from some “mild right sided quadricep soreness”.

While he did return back to the field in the final one-and-a-half hour of the day’s play, he did not opt to bowl perhaps as a precautionary measure.

The Australian fans had some furrowed foreheads after the skipper did not bowl a single Over on ‘Day 5’ as well, but during the post-match address remained positive on his chances to play the next Test at the Adelaide Oval, which will begin in three days from today (on December 8).

“I’m going well, and I have a tight quad. I was going to have a bowl, but it didn’t get close. Few of the boys called it a jog, which I was happy with – just tried to be protective and hopefully I’ll be available for Adelaide,” remarked Cummins.
