“I think he’ll go on and he’s got plenty more": Usman Khawaja rubbishes David Warner Test retirement rumours amid poor form

Australian opener David Warner is one of the few players around who is playing all three formats of the game and has been really consistent as well. However, the form of Warner in test cricket has been criticized by many in the recent past, and there are a lot of talks about his retirement from the longest format of the game.

Earlier, Warner hinted that he is thinking of retiring from test cricket after the next Ashes in England in 2023. Ahead of the Ashes, there is an important India tour as well, and Warner can play a big role there. The southpaw scored his last test century in 2020, and he has scored 675 runs in 25 innings at 28.18 since then.

In the recent test series against West Indies, he managed to score just 102 runs, and it clearly suggests that Warner is trying to find some form ahead of some crucial test matches ahead. Coach Andrew McDonald has already said that Warner is in the plans, and now his opening partner Usman Khawaja has also granted him his support

Usman Khawaja rubbishes David Warner Test retirement rumours

Usman Khawaja has rubbished aside the rumours of Warner retiring from test cricket in the near future. He insists that Warner has a lot to offer to the Australian team in the longest format of the game, and he has some time left in his kitty. Khawaja also insists that Warner has been unlucky sometimes in his modes of dismissal.

“Not even close,” Usman Khawaja said on SEN Radio about David Warner’s retirement.

“I think he’ll go on and he’s got plenty more to give, that thought hasn’t even crossed our mind if I’m being honest.”

Warner is one of the fittest players in the side, and Khawaja said that Warner is training and playing really well in the nets, and the runs will flow at some moment or another. Warner was criticized for his white ball form as well ahead of the 2021 T20 World Cup, and he won the Man of the Tournament award.

“He’s still going about his training really well, he’s still in good spirits and playing well,” Khawaja added.

“Like himself and all of us do, we know he’s going to score runs at some stage.”

Warner has scored 7919 test runs in 98 matches at 46.04 with the help of 24 centuries and 34 half-centuries. It is safe to say that he is one of the best batters to have played for Australia.
