ICC World Test Championship Winners List With Captain

Australia captain Pat Cummins and India captain Rohit Sharma are eyeing a golden opportunity of becoming only the second captain in the history of cricket to lift the WTC Mace by the end of an imminent final between two fierce rivals. One of Cummins or Sharma will join former New Zealand captain Kane Williamson among ICC World Test Championship winners.

Although India were the runners-up of the final match of the inaugural edition of the Test Championship, they had taken the field under former captain Virat Kohli in Southampton a couple of years ago. Set to be played at The Oval from tomorrow, the final of the second edition of the tournament will result in the first-ever ICC title for either of Cummins or Sharma.

Hence, both Cummins and Sharma will be treating this occasion as the first major monumental occasion of their respective captaincy careers. Taking into consideration how only a handful of captains have led their teams to ICC titles, one of them will join an elite club post this fascinating encounter.

Less experienced out of the two captains, Cummins has led Australia in only 15 Tests and a couple of ODIs till date. Speaking of tournament finals, he has played only one in ICC T20 World Cup 2021 final till now.

Sharma, on the other hand, has participated in a grand total of 15 finals of multi-teams tournaments. While he has led the national team in the final of Nidahas Trophy 2018 and Asia Cup 2018, the remaining 13 have come under the likes of legendary captains namely Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Kohli. All in all, the 36-year old player has played as many as 83 matches across formats for India as a captain.
