Kolkata Knight Riders opening batter Jason Roy (56) scored a 55th T20 and third Indian Premier League half-century against Royal Challengers Bangalore at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium tonight.

Roy, 32, hit four fours and five sixes at a strike rate of 193.10 to better his similar middle-order contribution in the last match against Chennai Super Kings at the Eden Gardens.
The highest point of Roy’s innings came in the last over of the powerplay when he made the most of fielding restrictions by hitting Bangalore all-rounder Shahbaz Ahmed (0/25) for four sixes in his only over of the match.
It was on the second delivery of the over when Roy put on display his first-rate timing to effortlessly chip the left-arm spinner over long-on for a six. On the next delivery, Roy hit a quintessential slog sweep for a six over deep mid-wicket.
A third consecutive six saw the right-handed batter adjusting exceedingly well to a shorter delivery bowled on his body. Initially wanting to make room for himself to play on the off-side, Roy didn’t let Ahmed’s astuteness affect his intention by pulling him for another six over mid-wicket. Having missed a slog on the penultimate ball of the over, Roy ensured to make a well-timed connection via the same shot on the last ball.

It was right before the halfway mark of Kolkata’s innings that Roy got out to pacer Vijaykumar Vyashak. Shuffling across to the off-side, all Roy did was hit miss the ball after exposing his leg-stump.

Roy’s opening partner Narayan Jagadeesan (27) scoring at a strike rate of less than 100 than his partner didn’t let the visitors make most of a hard-hitting half-century. With both of them walking back to the pavilion in the same over, Knight Riders staged an impressive rescue act because of a 44-ball 80-run third-wicket partnership between batter Venkatesh Iyer (31) and captain Nitish Rana (48).
Jason Roy IPL 2023 Price
It was in the second week of the ongoing 16th season of the IPL that KKR had named Roy as Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan‘s replacement.
Roy, whose name hadn’t even come up for a bid during IPL 2023 auction last year, had registered himself for a base price of INR 1.5 crore. Having said that, effective negotiations saw him signing an INR 2.8 crore deal with the franchise.
