Even though the T20 format of cricket was introduced and is mainly followed for the slam-bang entertainment it provides, there are days when even this format doesn’t let batters dictate terms primarily because of the conditions.

For example, the ongoing Indian Premier League 2023 Match 30 between Lucknow Super Giants and Gujarat Titans is one of those uninteresting low-scoring contests which don’t do justice to the principal nature of the format.
It is worth mentioning that low-scoring thrillers have a charm of their own and no one minds such a T20 on an occasional basis. On the other hand, a match like the current one being played sucks the joy of watching a T20. IPL 2023 Match 28 between Delhi Capitals and Mumbai Indians was another of those matches which didn’t have anything in it for the fans.
Not that bowlers bowled exceedingly well to not less the batters break free in these matches, it’s just that slow and sticky pitches had no scope whatsoever for ideal stroke-making. Hence, it wouldn’t be entirely wrong to say that the onus is now on the pitch curators of stadiums in Lucknow and Delhi to make amends and prepare for more fascinating surfaces.
It is noteworthy that the ongoing 16th season of the IPL is yet to produce one of the lowest powerplay scores in the history of the competition. That being said, going by the trend in some of the venues this season, it wouldn’t be a surprise if one of the teams enters into the below mentioned unwanted list.
Lowest Powerplay Score in IPL History
Score | Team | Opposition | Ground | Year |
14/2 | Royals | Royal Challengers | Cape Town | 2009 |
14/3 | Sunrisers | Royals | Pune | 2022 |
16/1 | Super Kings | Daredevils | Raipur | 2015 |
16/1 | Super Kings | Royal Challengers | Chennai | 2019 |
17/1 | Royal Challengers | Super Kings | Ranchi | 2014 |
NOTE: Only six-over powerplays have been considered in the above mentioned table. Less than six-over powerplays in rain-affected matches haven’t been taken into consideration.
