"Main Toh Yuvraj Bol Hi Nahin Raha": When MS Dhoni's Retirement Coverage Resulted In A Prank For A News Channel

There’s something really peculiar about Indian news channels. A majority of them, from time to time, come up with some surveys and data claiming themselves to be the best in the business be it in terms of popularity or the excellent quality of news coverage.

These self-proclaimed best channels’ producers and star anchors have also in the same breath caused themselves some major embarrassments. More often than not, during their toxic debate shows or telephonic conversations with guests, their personnel have inadvertently made a mockery of themselves before their viewers.

In their constant bid to break the news first and get an ideal personality on the telephone line as early as possible, a renowned Hindi news channel once faced a major blooper. The TRP game had begun right away as former India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni had taken to his social media handles to announce his retirement from international cricket on August 15, 2020.

MS Dhoni’s Retirement Coverage Resulted In A Prank For A News Channel

As news channels had received their matter for the rest of the day, a certain one decided to have the former Indian all-rounder Yuvraj Singh on the line to opine on Dhoni’s decision to hang his boots.

However, little did the anchor or the ones working in the background knew that they would connect the call to a random person from somewhere in the country, and not Yuvraj.

As if the blooper wasn’t enough already for the channel, this particular man turned out to be a perfect mischief monger. While he hilariously made it clear that they had not contacted the two-time World Cup-winning player but him, the man was in no mood to disconnect the call without pulling the anchor’s leg.

Main toh Yuvraj Singh bol hi nahin raha. Aap galat bande ko le aaye! Mujhe bahut maza aaya yahan aake! Kaun sa show hai? Main bhi dekhunga baad mein. Aapki TRP to nahin kharab ho gayi? [This is not Yuvraj Singh. You’ve contacted the wrong person! I’ve enjoyed a lot after being invited here! Which show is this? I’ll watch it later. Hope it didn’t affect your TRP!],” the person replied hilariously.

Yuvraj Singh on MS Dhoni’s Retirement

While the news channel failed to get Yuvraj on the line, the man himself took to his Twitter handle a day later to congratulate Dhoni on his stellar international career via a video tribute.

One of the best batting pairs in ODI cricket for India, the duo batted together across 67 innings scoring 3,105 runs at an average of 51.75. They had stitched 13 half-century and 10 century partnerships in the process.
