During the sixth match of the ongoing 14th season of the Indian Premier League between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Royal Challengers Bangalore in Chennai, Royal Challengers Bangalore beat Sunrisers Hyderabad by 6 runs to register their second victory in the tournament.
Chasing a 150-run target, Sunrisers emulated Kolkata Knight Riders from last night as they failed to seal a below par target despite an 83-run partnership for the second wicket between captain David Warner (54) and batsman Manish Pandey (38).
When Warner got out, Hyderabad needed 54 runs off 40 balls. With eight wickets in hand, SRH were expected to win the match without much discomfort. Having said that, their batsmen frequently played horrible shots to end up on the losing side.

Needing 35 runs in four overs to win, Hyderabad were on the front foot when Bangalore captain Virat Kohli brought back all-rounder Shahbaz Ahmed into the attack. Having given away six runs in his first over, Ahmed foxed SRH’s batsmen to play cross-batted rash shots to pick three wickets in a match-winning over.
Who was awarded the Man of the Match today?
Earlier, it was Warner who had won the toss and invited RCB to bat first. On the back of all-rounder Glenn Maxwell top-scoring with 59 (41) in a one-man show, his team scored 149/8 in 20 overs.
Coming in to bat at No. 4 in the seventh over, Maxwell finally ended his IPL drought scoring a half-century after as many as five years. With Kohli (33) and wicket-keeper batsman AB de Villiers (1) departing before the 15th over, Maxwell took the responsibility of finishing the innings upon himself to earn the ‘Man of the Match’ award.

“It’s a very nice start, new franchise for me and they have given me a specific role. It’s nice to have batters behind you, you have freedom and that’s almost close to the role I have in the Australian cricket team. It’s just about using the experience. Get myself in and then go for the runs.
“Probably having those guys behind me is a luxury at RCB. I suppose the coaching effect is there to an extent as well. Obviously my 4th IPL team and there’s a bit of pressure,” Maxwell told Star Sports during the post-match presentation ceremony.
