MI vs RCB Pitch Report: Is Wankhede Stadium Suited for Batting or Bowling in IPL 2023?

The 53rd match of the ongoing 16th season of the Indian Premier League will take place between Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bangalore, at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

After becoming the first IPL team to have registered back-to-back successful run-chases in excess of 200 runs, MI came up with a lackluster batting show in Chennai during their previous match, thereby ending on the wrong side of the result against the Chennai Super Kings.

RCB, on the other hand, were humbled courtesy of the Phil Salt onslaught in Delhi last Saturday. The Delhi Capitals opener, with his blistering innings of 87 (45) helped the Capitals chase down the target of 182 runs with 22 deliveries to spare.

With both teams having fetched 10 points each after ten matches, and the tournament nearing towards the end of the league stage, one more slip-up will place them in the must-win territory with respect to playoffs qualification.

MI vs RCB Pitch Report

Pitches at the Wankhede Stadium have been a belter for the batters in the ongoing season. In the four matches here so far, scores in excess of the 200-run mark have already been surpassed four times.

During the previous match between Rajasthan and Mumbai, the latter had registered the highest successful IPL run-chase (213), at the Wankhede Stadium.

The new ball bowlers are likely to extract some help, with the pitch likely to offer them decent bounce early on. Although, this might act as an additional advantage for the batters as well who will play their shots through the line.

The average score at this venue in IPL 2023 so far has been 196.6 runs, which is indicative enough that a high-scoring encounter is likely on the cards tomorrow.

Expect the captain winning the Toss to field first, as chasing teams have won three matches here this season so far.
