The Punjab Kings supporters in Mohali tonight can only hope for their team to replicate the insane display of stroke play which they just witnessed by the Lucknow Super Giants batters, during the ongoing 38th match of the 16th edition of the Indian Premier League.

The KL Rahul-led side operated at their absolute beast mode with the bat tonight, smashing the second-highest IPL team total ever in history -257/5, with the likes of Kyle Mayers (54 off 24), Ayush Badoni (43 off 24), Marcus Stoinis (72 off 40), and Nicholas Pooran (45 off 19) sending thunderbolts one after another across the boundary ropes of the Mohali Stadium ground.
While Mayers’ 20-ball half-century laid the foundation for a huge total, it were the third and fourth wicket partnerships which were instrumental in taking the team total past the 250-run mark.
While Stoinis and Badoni stitched together a stand worth 89 (47) for the third wicket, the former then joined hands with Pooran to add another 76 runs off 30 balls for the fourth wicket.
Most Fours in an Innings in IPL History
The run-fest tonight witnessed the LSG batters smashing a total of 41 boundaries – 27 Fours and 14 Sixes, which also happens to be the second-highest boundary count/aggregate by a team in IPL history during an innings.
The team with the highest boundary count in an innings happens to be the Royal Challengers Bangalore. They had hit 21 Fours and as many Sixes against the Pune Warriors India during the 2013 edition of the league. This was the very match in which Chris Gayle had scored 175* runs off mere 66 deliveries.
As far as the record for most number of Fours by a team in IPL history is concerned, the team which tops the list is the Delhi Capitals (then Delhi Daredevils), who had smashed as many as 31 Fours in their innings against the Gujarat Lions in the year 2017.
Shreyas Iyer had alone hit 15 Fours in his knock of 96 (57), while chasing the total of 196 runs.
