"Rather listen to him than keep to him": Adam Gilchrist chuckles around keeping or batting against Rashid Khan

It was a rare instance of Adelaide Strikers spinner Rashid Khan being in the limelight throughout a T20 innings without picking a single wicket. Khan, who gave away 32 runs in his four-over spell, was far away from his utmost best but his insights and conversations during the course of the innings entertained everyone who was watching Big Bash League 2022-23 Match 23.

Khan, who agreed to talk to Fox Cricket commentators through a microphone right through his presence at the Adelaide Oval in New Year’s Eve clash against Melbourne Stars today, was heard meticulously explaining his plans against different batters.

In the ears of batters whilst bowling, a chirpy Khan ensured enough entertainment to people watching the match on their televisions in spite of not being able to dismiss any batter.

Having expressed an aim of becoming the fastest bowler to pick 100 BBL wickets, Khan missed out on adding another feather in his cap for now. Still three short of the 100-wicket mark, Khan would be looking to hit the three-figure mark against Hobart Hurricanes on Monday.

Legendary Australia wicket-keeper batter Adam Gilchrist was one of the many people who were thoroughly enthralled by Khan providing ball-by-ball commentary while bowling at this home ground on Saturday.

Intrigued by the same, Gilchrist took to social media platform Twitter to express awe of a “superstar” in Khan. With a fan pointing out how keeping wickets to Khan can be an onerous task, Gilchrist didn’t shy away from admitting that he would rather keep hearing the 24-year old player than keeping wickets or batting against him.

Coming on the back of three consecutive NYE losses at home, Strikers will have to chase down a formidable 187-run target in order to win their fourth match of the season. Stars captain Adam Zampa’s decision of batting first was followed by all-rounder Marcus Stoinis returning to form with a stroke-filled 74 (35) comprising of five fours and six sixes at a strike rate of 211.42.
