Ravichandran Ashwin centuries in Test: R Ashwin Test centuries full list

Before probably spinning a web around the Bangladeshi batters, spin-duo of Ravichandran Ashwin (58) and Kuldeep Yadav (40) shared a 92-run partnership for the eighth wicket to bother the Bangladeshi bowlers and bail India out of trouble in the first innings of the first Test match at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium today.

With batter Shreyas Iyer (86) scoring only four runs on Day 2, India had lost their lone remaining specialist batter in the first 30 minutes of the day. What followed was Ashwin and Yadav not giving up to join hands for a potentially game-changing stand. Trusting their ability with the bat, Ashwin and Yadav treated the Bangladeshi bowlers on merit to power their team to 404 in 133.5 overs.

Playing a Test match after 22 months, Yadav was successful in scoring a career-best personal score in spite of missing out on a maiden Test half-century.

More accomplished out of the two, Ashwin managed to score his 13th Test half-century to join Cheteshwar Pujara (90) and Iyer as the third Indian half-centurion in this innings. In what was his maiden Test half-century in and against Bangladesh, it was his second in 2022, fifth away from home, sixth at No. 8 and 11th in Asia.

Ashwin, who hit two fours and sixes each at a strike rate of 51.32, looked assured for most part of his innings. It was on the third delivery of the 123rd over when Ashwin drove a Taijul Islam delivery for a single to touch the 50-run mark.

Wanting to hit his counterpart Mehidy Hasan Miraz down the ground, Ashwin missed out on making contact with the ball only to get stumped by Bangladesh wicket-keeper Nurul Hasan. In addition to a missed opportunity for a 100-run stand, Ashwin also missed out on a sixth Test century on Thursday.
