Indian skipper Rohit Sharma gave it his all in the attempt to steer the Indian sinking ship in the end, but it was not to be as hosts Bangladesh narrowly prevailed during the second ODI at the Shere Bangla National Stadium by 5 runs, to take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three match series.

Arriving at the crease at no. 9 in the batting order and during the 43rd Over of the chase after suffering a thumb injury quite early in the Bangladeshi innings, Rohit nearly registered a famous Indian victory tonight after he smashed a scintillating knock of 51* off 28 deliveries.
With Mohammad Siraj playing out a maiden to Mustafizur Rahman (10-1-43-1) in the 48th Over, it all looked curtains for the visitors until Rohit decided to activate his beast mode on.

With 40 runs required off 12 balls, the 35-year-old collected 20 runs off the Mahmadullah Over, and then struck couple of Fours and a Six (off the penultimate delivery) to Mustafizur, to bring the equation down to 6 runs required off the final delivery.
However, Mustafizur bowled a full, pacey last delivery on Sharma’s pads, to deny India the opportunity to draw level the series.

Rohit Sharma’s left-hand thumb was seen all taped up when he arrived at the crease, and it was explicitly clear that it was not just an ordinary injury suffered by the Indian skipper.
What a knock with an injured thumb!

Tough Luck, Team India.

Will Rohit Sharma play India vs Bangladesh 3rd ODI in Chattogram?
Post the second ODI, team India head coach confirmed that Rohit Sharma’s injury was indeed serious in nature, and that he will fly back to Mumbai to consult an expert.
He thus confirmed that Rohit, along with Deepak Chahar (who bowled only three Overs today), and Kuldeep Sen will not play the third ODI against the hosts, scheduled to take place on December 10 (Saturday).
“Rohit Sharma will miss the 3rd ODI, he will fly back to Mumbai to consult an expert. Kuldeep Sen and Deepak Chahar are out of the series”, remarked Dravid.
