SCF Cricket Ground Salem Pitch Report For TNPL 2023 Matches

After Coimbatore and Dindigul, the caravan of Tamil Nadu Premier League 2023 has reached Salem. Salem Cricket Foundation Ground will host the next eight matches of the tournament. Other than league games, Qualifier 1 and Eliminator will also be played here only.

Nellai Royal Kings will take on Chepuak Super Gillies in the first match, whereas Salem Spartans will take on Siechem Madurai Panthers in the second match of the opening day. The tournament has not been that high-scoring so far and conditions are not expected to change in Salem as well.

Kings and Super Gillies are in the Top 4 spots as of now and their match will be an interesting one to watch out for. The Spartans have won just one game so far, whereas the Panthers are in search of their first win of the tournament. Both games are of utmost importance on day one in Salem.

SCF Cricket Ground Salem Pitch Report For TNPL 2023 Matches

Salem is set to host its first match of TNPL 2023. This ground has not been favourable for the batters in the past and the bowlers are expected to have an upper hand here. The track here has a history of being on the slower side. In the first match, we can expect a fresh pitch. It may get slow as the season goes on.

A total of nine matches were played here last season and the average first innings score was just 130 runs (a few rain hurdled games played a part). Despite such a low score, seven matches were won by the teams batting first. It is evident that batting gets tougher here as the match progresses. The spinners will love bowling here and the pacers who bowl slower balls well will also enjoy their time.

The boundaries are not that huge, whereas the outfield looks good as well. Batting first won’t be a bad idea at all on this venue, especially in the day games. Having low-scoring encounters in this leg wouldn’t be a surprise.
