"Stunning Innings on a Tricky Pitch": Ravi Shastri Eulogizes Prabhsimran Singh for Scoring Maiden IPL century

Former Indian cricketer and head coach Ravi Shastri eulogized Punjab Kings batter Prabhsimran Singh for scoring his first century in the Indian Premier League. Singh’s career-best knock didn’t come in the easiest of circumstances.

Known for his tendency to attack the bowlers from the word go, Singh was quick to assess a sluggish pitch at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in IPL 2023 Match 59 tonight. As a result, the right-handed batter was exceptional in the way he curbed his shot-making instincts against Delhi Capitals. The same was further propelled by Punjab losing three batters for single-digit scores in the powerplay.

With his team scoring at a run rate of 6.6 in the first half of the innings, Singh had scored 27* (31) before playing his natural game for the first time against Delhi all-rounder Mitchell Marsh (0/21). Having hit a couple of sixes and a four in the 11th over, Singh didn’t let go of this momentum to score 76 (34) before getting out to pacer Mukesh Kumar (1/3) in the penultimate over.

It was on the fourth delivery of the 18th over when the 22-year old player guided a Khaleel Ahmed (0/36) low full toss through the point region to register his second T20 century. In what is the fifth century in the ongoing 16th season of the IPL, it is the seventh instance of an uncapped player scoring an IPL century and the sixth instance of an IPL century in Delhi.

Ravi Shastri Eulogizes Prabhsimran Singh for Scoring Maiden IPL century

Shastri, one of the many star-studded commentators for Star Sports Networktook to social media platform Twitter to express approval of Singh. Having highlighted a “tricky” pitch, Shastri was also appreciative of Singh’s bat speed and the IPL’s nature of providing a platform to rookie cricketers.

Currently into his fifth IPL season, Singh has become the second-highest run-scorer for Kings this season.
