Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy: Ashwin Hebbar grabs stunner to dismiss Paras Dogra; Sheldon Jackson's maiden T20 century seals 227-run chase

Sheldon Jackson’s maiden T20 century: It required a career-best effort from the Puducherry batsman to seal a record chase.

During an Elite Group E match of the ongoing 12th season of Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy between Andhra and Puducherry in Mumbai, Puducherry beat Andhra by 4 wickets in a fascinating chase.

Needing 227 runs to win the match, Puducherry lost opening batsmen S Karthik (23) and Damodaran Rohit (9) inside the powerplay. It was at this time that Sheldon Jackson and Paras Dogra joined hands to put together a match-winning 98-run partnership at the Wankhade Stadium.

Jackson and Dogra, who have represented Saurashtra and Himachal Pradesh respectively for a large part of their career, played game-changing knocks to hand Puducherry their maiden victory of this season.

Comprising of multiple hard-hitting shots to keep in touch with the required run rate, Jackson and Dogra cleared the boundary frequently which was a vital reason why the chase didn’t get affected despite Dogra’s dismissal in the 13th over.

While Dogra ended up scoring 51 (18) with the help of two fours and six sixes, it was Jackson who stayed behind to witness the middle-order not putting price to their wicket.

Taking the matter to his own hands, the 34-year old batsman scored the majority of runs in the last three overs . In the process, Jackson also registered his maiden T20 century scoring 106* (50) with the help of seven fours and eight sixes.

A brief moment of brilliance for Andhra in the second innings lied in all-rounder Ashwin Hebbar’s stunning fielding effort to dismiss Dogra off Karanthi Kumar. Fielding at a straight-ish long on, Hebbar was exceptional in converting a potential six into a catch.
