Taniya Bhatia catch vs England: Indian wicket-keeper grabs remarkable diving catch to dismiss Lauren Winfield-Hill in Bristol Test

Taniya Bhatia catch: The Indian wicket-keeper continued her superb day behind the wickets to end a potentially dangerous opening stand.

During the first day of the ongoing one-off Test between England Women and India Women in Bristol, India wicket-keeper Taniya Bhatia grabbed a remarkable catch to dismiss England opening batter Lauren Winfield-Hill.

Playing only her first Test, Bhatia continued her superb day behind the wickets as she was seen collecting the ball cleanly whilst keeping up to pacers earlier in the first session.

Given how Tammy Beaumont and Winfield-Hill had started to collect runs without much discomfort in a 69-run opening partnership, it was imperative for the visitors to pick their first wicket after being asked to bowl first by England captain Heather Knight.

It all happened on the third delivery of the 21st over when Winfield-Hill’s attempt of driving a fuller delivery by India pacer Pooja Vastrakar saw her outside edging the delivery towards the right of Bhatia.

In what was a full-length dive, the 23-year old player did her best to send back Winfield-Hill. Been previously dropped by Smriti Mandhana at first slip off Jhulan Goswami, Winfield-Hill walked back to the pavilion after scoring 35 (63) with the help of four fours and two sixes.

Apart from Bhatia, India also handed respective debuts to the likes of Shafali Verma, Deepti Sharma, Sneh Rana and Vastrakar. As far as the hosts are concerned, they included a lone debutant in Sophia Dunkley.
