WATCH: NRL Team Canberra Raiders Recreate Alex Carey Jonny Bairstow Stumping Dismissal

Canberra Raiders’ players recreated England wicket-keeper batter Jonny Bairstow‘s dismissal by his Australian counterpart Alex Carey from the second Ashes 2023 Test match. The development means that they have become the latest to jump on the bandwagon with respect to taking a dig on a legal but senselessly debatable dismissal which had happened at Lord’s on Sunday.

It all happened during the ongoing National Rugby League 2023 Round 19 match between St. George Illawarra Dragons and Raiders at the WIN Stadium, Wollongong. Perhaps wanting to take the mick out of the POMS, a few players from the visiting team planned to re-enact the dismissal as part of a celebration despite minimal resources at disposal.

As a result, a Duke’s ball was replaced by a rugby ball. While they neither had a cricket bat nor a set of stumps on an NRL ground, there was no dearth of emotion with respect to enjoying the act.

With the tournament being played in Australia, it isn’t surprising to see the Aussies having a good time around this particular dismissal. The fact that supporters of Carey are advocating for a lawful dismissal back home must be providing solid validation to the 31-year old cricketer.

“This is the Jonny Bairstow run-out [stumping]. Stepped out of his crease. Missed the stumps,” even NRL commentators didn’t mind mocking the manner in which the Englishman was dismissed in the last match.

Alex Carey Booed At Headingley On Day 1

Carey, meanwhile, was booed by spectators at Headingley when he walked out to bat in the first innings of the third Test yesterday.

With English fans yet to come to terms with the legality of the dismissal, it is safe to assume that they haven’t moved on from the same. Playing his 100th Test, even Australia vice-captain Steven Smith was booed in Leeds on Thursday.

Speaking of Carey, the left-handed batter failed to contribute to what would’be been crucial runs in the presence of tail-enders in the third session on Day 1. That said, he did make it a point to aid his team by grabbing an exceptional catch to dismiss England opener Ben Duckett in the same session.
