India pacer Mohammed Shami was once doing an Instagram Live with journalist Rohit Juglan where he expressed what he misses about playing with Dhoni. Shami made his debut under Dhoni only and has played in his captaincy in all the three formats of international cricket. However, Dhoni has not led Shami in Indian Premier League so far.
Shami has been doing well for Gujarat Titans in IPL 2023 and his team will face Dhoni’s Chennai Super Kings in the final of the tournament tomorrow. It may or may not be Dhoni’s last IPL season but he has been getting tremendous support at all venues. Dhoni’s leadership skills are being praised by everyone this season as well, and Shami also has a lot of great memories with him.
Mohammed Shami Once Revealed What He Misses About MS Dhoni
Shami had revealed that he misses having those late-night chats and dinners with Dhoni. Dhoni is a guy who is always there for his teammates. Recalling his memories with Dhoni, Shami had said that the wicket-keeper always used to carry youngsters with him for dinner. The environment that Dhoni creates helps individuals to give their best in the game.
“One thing I like is he [Dhoni] likes to sit with everyone and have dinner. There are always two-four people with him. We [used to] chat till late night, and these are the things that one misses,” Shami had said.
Players such as Shivam Dube, Ajinkya Rahane etc. have performed well above expectations at Chennai this season. Former Indian captain Virat Kohli is also an admirer of Dhoni and has many times agreed that he shares an unmatched bonding with him.
Mohammed Shami Record under MS Dhoni
Between 2013-2016, Shami played 53 international matches under Dhoni. He managed to scalp 118 wickets in those matches at an economy of 4.70. He had an average and strike rate of 27.80 and 34.50 respectively. Shami played the ICC World Cup 2015 in Dhoni’s leadership where he scalped 17 wickets and was the fourth-highest wicket-taker of the tournament.
Shami’s best phase came under Kohli where he delivered at his very best. Kohli was someone who always used to back the pacers and Shami was one of his biggest weapons.
