Weather SCG Sydney 4 January: Sydney Cricket Ground weather forecast for AUS vs SA 3rd Test Day 1 tomorrow

The third Test match of the ongoing South Africa’s tour of Australia will begin at the Sydney Cricket Ground tomorrow resuming traditions around the venue hosting both New Year’s and Pink Test.

With Australia winning the first two matches comprehensively, the result of a three-match series has already been finalized. However, the hosts would still want to whitewash the Proteas, not impossible considering their current form, in order to book an ICC World Test Championship final berth.

Having said that, the Aussies will have to adjust to the absence of all-rounder Cameron Green and fast bowler Mitchell Starc as both of them have been ruled out of the match due to respective finger injuries. While both the teams might look to play with an additional spinner at the SCG, even South Africa will have to make a forced change as batter Theunis de Bruyn has returned home for the birth of his first child.

The weather forecast for the first day of the third Test doesn’t appear to be very conducive for uninterrupted action throughout the day. Sydney, which has hosted the only rain-affected Big Bash League 2022-23 match thus far, might be in store for yet another rain-affected international match this summer.

If reliable weather portal AccuWeather is to be believed, a threatening 49% rain probability during the second session hints at high chances of weather gods playing spoilsport on Wednesday. Readers must note that the number is expected to further increase to 60% during the evening session. Hence, it wouldn’t be astonishing if the second half of the day comprises no or restricted play.

Although there was a similar weather prediction for the first day of the series in Brisbane last month, rain gods had practiced leniency on the day to not cause any sort of interruption.
