During the first T20I of the ongoing Pakistan’s tour of England at Trent Bridge, England batsman Liam Livingstone scored the fastest T20I century by an English batsman achieving the feat in just 42 balls.
Coming in to bat at No. 5 in the fifth over of a 233-run chase, Livingstone backed his attacking instincts to score 103 (43) with the help of six fours and nine sixes in a knock which was a sight to behold.
Having ran a couple of singles in his first three deliveries, Livingstone hit two sixes and a four off Pakistan fast bowler Haris Rauf as England scored 69/3 in the powerplay.
In the following over, Livingstone welcomed Pakistan all-rounder Shadab Khan with consecutive sixes to remain unperturbed by the culmination of fielding restrictions. In Shadab’s second over, Livingstone’s brutality saw him hitting two sixes and a four to register a 17-ball half-century – fastest for an English batsman in the format.
It was on the second delivery of the 17th over that Livingstone targeted Shadab yet again to score his maiden century for England. With the required run rate increasing from around 11 an over to 14, 27-year old Livingstone had no option than to continue hitting the big shots which saw him getting out on the delivery after reaching the milestone.
Earlier, it was a 150-run opening partnership between Pakistan vice-captain Mohammad Rizwan (63) and captain Babar Azam (85) which propelled them to 232/6 in 20 overs after England captain Eoin Morgan won the toss and chose to bowl.
With a match-winning spell of 3.2-0-30-3 including dismissals of Dawid Malan (1), Jonny Bairstow (11) and Matt Parkinson (0), Shaheen Shah Afridi was declared the ‘Man of the Match’ in Nottingham.
