What Happened To Ishan Kishan Today in IPL 2023 Qualifier 2 At The Narendra Modi Stadium?

Mumbai Indians wicket-keeper Ishan Kishan didn’t keep wickets during the slog overs of the first innings of the ongoing Indian Premier League 2023 Qualifier 2 against Gujarat Titans at the Narendra Modi Stadium.

Kishan, who kept wickets for the first 16 overs of the innings, had to return back to the dressing room after suffering an eye injury involving fast bowler Chris Jordan (0/56).

Wicket-keeper Vishnu Vinod, who played a couple of matches earlier this month, was called upon in an emergency situation. Having batted in both those matches, the 29-year old player kept wickets for the last four overs of the innings.

Is Ishan Kishan Injured?

In what was an accident on the part of both the cricketers, Kishan ended up getting elbowed by Jordan. With the English bowler completing a 17-run 16th over, Kishan had run up towards him whilst potentially changing ends after the completion of an over.

In the act of wearing his cap, a blinded Jordan didn’t realize that Kishan was charging towards him. As a result, he ended up hitting Kishan in the eye.

It is noteworthy that there has been no official confirmation with respect to the extent of Kishan’s injury till now. Hence, it remains unknown if he will open the batting with captain Rohit Sharma or not.

While the prospect of Kishan not opening the batting will be unfortunate for Indians especially in a 234-run chase, it could witness all-rounder Cameron Green (0/35) partnering his skipper at the top of the order against the new ball.

UPDATE: Impact Player Nehal Wadhera has been promoted as an opening batter. Additionally, Vinod has been brought in as a concussion substitute for Kishan. Hence, Kishan won’t be batting in this match.

Suryakumar Yadav Led Mumbai Indians In The Slog Overs

In addition to Kishan, Sharma and Green were also absent from the ground nursing to individual finger injuries. Both Sharma and Green were hit by two of the bountiful hard-hitting shots played by Titans’ batters. Green, in particular, was hit by a Shubman Gill (129) shot while he was bowling.
