What Happens If It Rains On Reserve Day Of IPL Final 2023?

Rain has played spoilsport for the second time across as many days as far as Indian Premier League 2023 final match is concerned. While the weather gods hadn’t even allowed for the toss to happen on Sunday, they caused the first interruption on a reserve day in the first over of the second innings.

Chasing the highest target in the history of IPL finals, Chennai Super Kings had just faced three balls when it started to pelt down at the Narendra Modi Stadium tonight.

Readers must note that drizzle had made its presence felt in the first innings as well but it wasn’t strong enough to affect proceedings. However, in the second innings, a sudden and heavy outburst immediately forced the players to run off the field.

What Happens If It Rains On Reserve Day Of IPL Final 2023?

It is worth mentioning that the match officials will try their absolute best to conduct a result-oriented match. With additional time added to a reserve day in addition to the weather forecast which comprises minuscule chances of rain in Ahmedabad at this point in time, there are high chances of the match resuming in the near future.

UPDATE: A second official update will take place at 11:30 PM (IST).

While there has been no official update around reduction in overs as of now, the same can be done to accommodate as short as a five-over match. It is noteworthy that Super Kings will be required to chase down a 66-run target in case the match is reduced to a five-over contest. Additionally, they will need to score 123 runs in 10 overs if they are to win a 10-over clash against defending champions Gujarat Titans on Monday.

Having said that, there is no reserve day for a reserve day in the IPL. Therefore, this match won’t continue till May 30, i.e., tomorrow.

What Happens If IPL Final Is Cancelled?

If rain doesn’t allow for any further action, GT will become the third team to lift an IPL trophy in consecutive seasons. The same will happen due to their position at the top of the points table during the league phase of the ongoing 16th season of the IPL. In doing so, Titans will join Kolkata Knight Riders in terms of winning the IPL twice.
