Indian pacers Mohammed Shami and Jasprit Bumrah are two of the bests in their business. Bumrah is currently on the sidelines due to a back injury. Shami, on the other hand, is leading the Indian attack in both ODIs and Tests. In an interview in 2020, Indian captain Rohit Sharma once revealed how competitive both these bowlers get in training.

Sharma was talking to Indian women’s team’s cricketers Smriti Mandhana and Jemimah Rodrigues on a chat show named ‘Double Trouble’. He stated Shami as the toughest bowler he has ever faced in the nets. Sharma said that Shami always gets excited when he sees bowling-friendly conditions.
The Indian team generally practices on green tracks and Shami doesn’t give respite to batters even in the nets. He is the one who will bowl shorter deliveries despite being a friendly session. Both Shami and Bumrah try to get the best out of the batters and Sharma appreciated that fact.
Rohit Sharma Once Revealed How Mohammed Shami and Jasprit Bumrah Target Batters in the Nets
Shama had told Rodrigues and Mandhana that Shami and Bumrah compete against each other to beat him the maximum number of times. Shami even eats extra Biryani to gain some extra power to bowl. Sharma said that Bumrah has not been in the scene for long, but he has seen Shami for many years now.
“The pitches we have for net sessions are almost always green with moisture. And whenever Shami sees a green pitch, he eats extra biryani! Bumrah is also difficult, but he has been around only for two-three years,” Rohit said on the show ‘Double-Trouble’.
“Shami, I have been playing since 2013. But yeah, right now there must be a competition going on between Bumrah and Shami, on who beats the bat most, who can hit the most on the helmets.”
Mohammed Shami and Jasprit Bumrah Test record
India will play Australia in the final of the World Test Championship and Bumrah will be missing that match. The combination of Shami and Bumrah has been deadly for the Indian team, especially with the red ball. Not just with bowling, but both of them have contributed with the bat as well.
In 2021, they added 89 runs for the ninth wicket against England at Lord’s. This is the highest partnership for the ninth wicket for India in away conditions. Shami has scalped 225 Test wickets in 63 matches at an average of 27.48, whereas Bumrah has picked 128 wickets in 30 matches at an average of 21.99.
Even former Indian batters Sachin Tendulkar and Virender Sehwag called the combo of Bumrah and Shami as the perfect partnership for Indian cricket team.
