Netherlands’ tour of South Africa 2023 is an extension of their South African tour 16 months ago. It is due to the same reason that this tour is starting with the second ODI and not the first.

Readers must note that Netherlands were slated to play a three-match ODI series for the first time in South Africa in November 2021. While a new and potentially dangerous COVID-19 variant had delayed the second and third ODIs at the time, the first ODI in Centurion was washed out after just a couple of overs were bowled in the second innings where the visitors were required to chase a 278-run target.
Rain, it seems, is in no mood to let South Africa-Netherlands ODI series be played without an interruption. With an eighth ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 spot up for grabs, South Africa are likely to miss out on direct qualification if they don’t win both these matches.
