Test cricket is all in readiness of returning to Dominica after more than six years with the first match of India’s tour of West Indies 2023 to be played here tomorrow onwards. While the Windsor Park had hosted a T20I as recent as last year, the management would be delighted at being awarded a Test match for the first time since hosting Pakistan in 2017.

In what is going to be the 14th international match here, it will only be the sixth Test match. Speaking of the first five Tests, West Indies have won one but lost three since the inaugural contest in 2011. Interestingly, the first Test in the city had ended in a draw involving India. Readers must note that India are playing at this stadium for the first time since then.

Highest Test run-scorers at this venue are Shivnarine Chanderpaul (384), Roston Chase (170), Darren Bravo (143), Adam Voges (130) and Azhar Ali (130). Apart from Chase and Bravo, other batters part of the current squads to have done well here are Jason Holder (85) and Kraigg Brathwaite (74).
Speaking of the Indian cricketers, former captain Virat Kohli is the only active player who had participated in the first Roseau Test back in the day. In the only innings that he batted in at No. 5 in that match, he scored 30 (53) with the help of two fours.
The only two guys part of the last test we played at Dominica in 2011. Never imagined the journey would bring us back here in different capacities. Highly grateful. 🙌 pic.twitter.com/zz2HD8nkES

As far as the bowlers are concerned, highest wicket-takers in Tests played at the Windsor Park are Shane Shillingford (20), Devendra Bishoo (12), Nathan Lyon (10), Mitchell Starc (8) and Yasir Shah (8). Part of the West Indian squad for this series, Shannon Gabriel (5), Holder (4), Alzarri Joseph (4) and Kemar Roach (4) have all picked a handful of wickets at this venue.
Highest Innings Totals In Roseau Tests
Score | Overs | Team | Opposition | Year |
381/8d | 117 | West Indies | Zimbabwe | 2013 |
376 | 146.3 | Pakistan | West Indies | 2017 |
347 | 108.2 | India | West Indies | 2011 |
328 | 114.5 | Australia | West Indies | 2012 |
322 | 131.3 | West Indies | India | 2011 |
The low-scoring nature of the surface in Dominica can be observed from the fact that no team has been able to touch the 400-run mark across 19 Test innings thus far. Furthermore, it is worth noting that even the 300-run mark has been surpassed only six times.
Out of four result-oriented Roseau Tests, only one has been won by chasing down a target. It all had happened against the home team when Australia had sealed a 47-run chase in five overs with 9 wickets to spare eight years ago.
