Juventus travelled to the Wanda Metropolitano; the same stadium where they lost 2-0 to Atletico in the round of 16 last season, and almost scripted their own surprise victory. Juan Cuadrado’s stunning strike from inside the box gave the Italian Champions a lead in the 48th minute.
Blaise Matuidi then double the lead in the 65th minute. Juventus look certain for victory. However, Stefan Savic scored one for Atletico 5 minutes later to reduce the gap by one. Hector Herrera then came off the bench to score the equaliser in the 90th minute.
With the lead squandered, Juventus were now chasing the winner like a pack of hungry wolves. Cristiano Ronaldo, the biggest star in the team, took it upon himself to breakdown Atletico’ defence and win the game for his team.

The Portuguese received the ball via a throw in from Alex Sandro only to find himself surrounded by 4 opposition players. Ronaldo then displayed the pace and skill that has made him a top player for all his career to steer his way through them before beating another.
He pulled the ball into his right feet and then powered a low curling shot. Unfortunately for him, the balled dragged wide past Jan Oblak. Ronaldo shook his head in disbelief. All that hardwork and Juventus would only have a point to show for.

Maurizio Sarri, Juventus manager, was not at all pleased with his teams display. Talking after the match, he let known his frustration at the abject surrender of the 2-0 lead.
“The feeling is that it is not a question of form, because if you are passive, you are passive even marking yourself.
“Things were on display that we implement every day in training, but conceding these goals too is punishing.”
Juventus will now play hosts to Bayer Leverkusen. Atletico Madrid on the other hand will travel to Russia to face Lokomotiv Moscow.
