Cristiano Ronaldo: Former Real Madrid star explains why Juventus and Barcelona struggle to win Champions League

Cristiano Ronaldo says there needs to be luck in various factors to lift the Champions League.

Cristiano Ronaldo says Juventus and Barcelona need luck in various factors to lift the Champions League. The Portuguese international, who has the record number of Champions League titles, is hoping that his current club is not obsessed about the European trophy.

The 34-year-old responded that the Los Blancos had a fair share of luck in terms of injuries, luck, moment, etc when he was queried if Juve would finally lift the Champions League.

He said: “It is always the year of Juventus, of Madrid, of Barça, in which a competition like the Champions League only wins one. I give you the example of Barcelona: how much money has invested the last five years in players and has not won the Champions League. That is not how it works.”

“Juve has been reinforced very well and it is a team that will fight to win, as always, but it will depend on many factors: the crosses, the groups, the moment, the injuries, the luck … But as I say there is always no to become obsessed with the Champions.”

“Juve will win it, if it is not this year, hopefully it will be next, in two years, the way they work, how they are considering it. It has all the ingredients to be able to win it.”

The Old Lady last won the Champions League back in 1996. It has been a barren spell for the Italian outfit, who have seen the Milan sides lift the prestigious European trophy ever since then.

“Always the same, regardless of what they sign. Madrid, Barça, Atlético, Juve, Bayern, Liverpool … I may leave some, but I really see it as usual. Barça and Madrid, who spent more money than everyone else, City too, are perhaps the favorites, but in football they don’t always win the favorites.” he said of favourites heading into the new Champions League season.
