Cristiano Ronaldo waited until his win was announced before entering Serie A awards ceremony

Cristiano Ronaldo waited until his win was announced before entering Serie A awards ceremony. The Portuguese forward made a short appearance joining the ceremony at the very end.

Lionel Messi scooped up his 6th Ballon d’Or award last night. Despite being named in the shortlist for the prestigious award, Cristiano Ronaldo chose to snub the event. Instead, he was in Italy where, for some reason, the Serie A awards ceremony were taking place.

Cristiano Ronaldo ended up 3rd in the list behind, winner Lionel Messi and runner up Virgil Van Dijk. However, he himself picked up two awards at the Serie A Awards. He was named the Serie A’s Most Valuable Player, as well as the best forward for the 2018/19 season. However, it appears that his appearance at the ceremony was very brief.

According to Italian journalist Tancredi Palmeri, Cristiano Ronaldo waited until his win was announced before entering Serie A awards ceremony. He waited in his car until the exact moment he knew he’d win the MVP award and only then did he leave his car to attend the ceremony.

Palmeri also claims that the former Real Madrid and Manchester United forward’s bodyguards, which includes a former MMA fighter, purposely shined torches so that photographers couldn’t take pictures of him as he entered.

This story will do no favours to Cristiano Ronaldo, who is already seen as an arrogant and narcissistic figure in football, It is also very strange that the Serie A decided to host their ceremony on the same day as the Ballon d’Or. Coincidentally, both Ballon d’Or nominees from the league, Ronaldo and Kalidou Koulibaly, ditched the French awards and won awards in the Serie A ceremony.
