CSK buy Indian fast bowler

CSK buy Indian fast bowler: Chennai Super Kings buy Indian fast bowler Mohit Sharma for INR 5 crore.

During the ongoing IPL auction for the 12th season of the IPL (Indian Premier League) at Jaipur, IPL franchise Chennai Super Kings acquired the services of India fast bowler Mohit Sharma for INR 5 crore.

Sharma, who was priced at INR 50 lakh, straight away went into the bidding war. Kings XI Punjab, who had released Sharma were bid heavily for him but it was Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians who raised the price of the 30-year old cricketer.

Sharma had last played for India during India’s tour of South Africa in 2015. Currently playing for his state team Haryana, Sharma has returned mediocre numbers in the recent domestic seasons across formats.

It is worth mentioning that it was Sharma’s three (2013-15) back to back seasons with CSK which saw him become the bowler that he was known for. Playing under the then India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni had unequivocally brought out the best out of him.

CSK, who had only two spots and a minimal budget of INR 8.4 crore left coming into this auction, tried their best to buy another India fast bowler in Jaydev Unadkat. Having lost that battle to Rajasthan Royals, CSK seemed to desperate to buy Sharma.

On a personal front, Sharma would be contended to return back to a franchise which literally shaped his career. He would also be hoping to put on display a replica of his past performances.

In the three seasons that he played for Punjab, Sharma was usually expensive and lacked the quality which he was once known for.
